Foreword
(Translated from Sanskrit)
Unmanifest ideas residing in the mind are
communicated by many actions like facial
expressions and movements of body. Among these
actions, the action of speech is predominant. There
is nothing that cannot be achieved through speech.
It is because of this that speech is described as
a (wish-fulfilling) cow in vācaṃ dhenumupāsīta.
Without language, verbal communication is not
possible. People can communicate their intention
through any language. There are many languages
in this world among which Saṃskṛta shines like
the crest jewel, due to its vast vocabulary ; due to
the ability of its words to convey a great depth
of meaning ; due to its refined form of expression,
adorned by various figures of speech. The name
“Saṃskṛta”, meaning refined and polished, is indeed
very apt.
Usually, languages change from place to place and
from time to time. In a particular place, at a specific
